Just a great big thank you to CNCZone and its members. 2 years ago I finally made the push to emigrate. I booked the flight a year in advance and set up several interviews with a variety of kitchen manufactures. I had spent over 18 year making solid timber doors and kitchens and had used a varity of machines except CNC's. Well everything looked rosie untill I actually landed in NZ. The worldwide recession had hit my chosen proffesion hard in NZ, several companies I had interviews with had gone bust. The others looked a bit sheepish and just went through the motions in the interview. Finally desperation set in and I used an agent recommended by the guy who I hired a car from. He arranged an interview with a internal door manufacture. The factory owner was so impressed by my DIY CNC he hired me. First day at work I was introduced as the "CNC Expert". First day of work I had a pay rise, 3 months later another. I will recieve another payrise shortly once after some modifications I am about introduce will treble the machines speed. I had a nice life in the UK. But here in NZ I live in a large bungalow with an uobstructed view of the mountains and an even better lifestyle. Once again thankyou very much. Liam and family. ![]() ![]() |

![]() "View of the mountains"? South Island I guess, or maybe the mountains are Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro; either way it is a nice place to live.

| Liam, congratulations to you! And, congrats to your employer for seeking out someone with the entrepreneurial spirit like yourself and realizing what an asset they could be. Many employers are threatened by guys that seem to "know to much". Cheers, BW

| Good on you Liam, Im in NZ too, Wellington. I know what you mean about making a CNC can be a door opener! I made a CNC from MDF and skateboard bearings the classic cheap design and I showed it to the CNC operator at my fathers work and he was hugely impressed, thought if I could do that I could get a job as an operator no problem. He's got me making him a DIY CNC now! Josh |
