It seems to me that gravity may provide the anti-backlash capability to a simple feed nut on the Z axis. Here's my thinking...when the router moves up or down, gravity is always pushing down, so the nut should always be riding the "top" side of the threads. Even when the router is drilling down and the material is pushing back, the router turns at such a high rpm that again the router doesn't see the backlash for more than a flash. So, I am thinking that on the Z axis, all I need is a simple delrin feed nut without the anti-backlash jazz. Is this correct, or am I missing something? |

| If you use a downcut spiral bit, it'll climb up if there's backlash. And it can take much more force than you think to plunge into material.
