Power supply idea

So I have my 95 cent steppers, got 'em to turn with my cheap board and comper psu. Now I don't know if I should use them cause the turn really slow and skip steps. However I did plug them into a laptop psu, and the held a little tighter with the higher voltage. not yet tried that with the board though, obviously can't turn on the emc2 machine cause I don't have a battery.

Anyway I was playing with my Kill-o-watt, that I won at the town energy fair, checking my Ryobi One charger charging a battery and without. Just so ya know, it doesn't draw any juice without a battery in it. I bet, just about all of you have some cordless tools. And most of you upgraded or something, and one time or another had a useless charger layin around. Hey, get where I'm going.

I have 18 volt batterys. The charger turns 120 volt wild power into nice easy 18v home shop electricity. 32 watts and .31 amps to be exact, thanks little Kill-o-watt. What are the pros and cons to hacking this into a cnc psu?

Go ahead, run with my idea, royalty free.

I'm not sure what power supplies are in chargers (are they just wall warts?), but you may get some line noise. You could use two computer psus in series for 24 volts (remember to "unground" the case of the floating one!!).

I've been using 3 computer psus for 36 volts for about a year now with no problems.

You have too much time on your hands... ;> Go to www.mpja.com. Get (for example) a regulated 24V 4.2A power supply for $15.

First of all thanks for that site jsheerin, love to find hobby surplus sites. truss-rod, there is no better feeling than building something yourself. Sometimes you need to look deeper than bottom dollar.
