I did a search and found out fr-3 is the recommended board, but who sells this fr-3 type boards? Is anyone doing double sided boards using the engraving method? I'm thinking about going single since it would be easier to start out with. I found some single sided boards on digikey, but I'm not sure what is a good choice on width, material, or type. http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea...S&Cat=32375757 Thanks for the help. Nick |

The standard PCB laminate is FR4 1.6mm. If you intend to mill out the tracks then you do not need the copper coated with photo-resist For higher currents you can use a thicker copper laminate but these are more expensive and take longer to etch. Soldering some wire to the track works just as well Cheaper PCBs pased on a paper glass mix are also available and are easier to drill eg CEM/1. While not as strong as FR4 they are easier on machine tools and drills and can also be punched. When drilling it is helpful to use a backing sheet of Alu foil coated SRBP board for the drill exit this helps prevent drill breakage For supplies you could try the us rep for Mega http://www.megauk.com/cgi-bin/mega/l...ww.megauk.com/ http://www.vpcinc.com/Products/pcb.htm If you are interested in some background on commercial manufacture look here http://www.personal.dundee.ac.uk/~gjzcallo/ |
