I'll be soon making a cnc router machine but haven't decide which way to build there are 2 kinds of designs that I'm interested. Can you guys give me some inputs? the machine will be roughtly 1.6 meter x 1 meter. Some of the parts I bought was wrong sizes but I'm going to use them anyway. 2 pcs 1.5m 40mm sbr supported rail units 2 pcs 1 m 40mm sbr supported rail units 2 pcs 0.5 40mm sbr supported rail units 2 pcs 1.6m 25mm ballscrew 1 pc 1m 25mm ballscrew 1 pc 0.6m 25mm ballscrew on the pic there I use 10cm UNP steel and some 20mm aluminum, I prefer steel whenever possible since it's alot cheaper. |

| I like the first design better. You will have more difficulty accessing the router, but I made something similar and use two cam clamps to pop the router out when I want to change bits. No question about rigidity with it. No flexing gantry riser. Better use of the bearing blocks. No rails or screws close to the cutter, so easier to keep clean. It's basically the same concept as a Mechmate. Either design would work well though, but short of building both, the nod goes to the first from here.
