It was to early for a build theread, back to design questions

Newbie Eran here again,
I guess i was jumping to fast to start a build theread. it looks like i got more homework to do first.
i got myself some motion gear and i was modeling a bit in sketchup to try and see what will work,i made 3 versions
the black parts are the parts from the stuff i got, will post pictures of it too.
the slides are 284mm and the Z unit is about 180mm, so it's going to be a tiny machine, but if it i'll sucseed i will probably build a bigger one.
Please tell me what you think
thanks
Eran

the parts:
i got 4 of these:

one unit of this:

and these are the three designs i made - thier kind of schematic, once i decide i'll do a more detaild model

I vote for option 2. Less crap gets in the screws and on the X rails. Only a single motor and screw for X axis is easier. However, since you already have the units, you can do twin X drives but mount the rails underneath to keep crap out.

I think you will need to two rails on the Y axis, I'd just remove the motor and screw off one of your units.

It looks like my data cut machine which I tend to have a biased liking.

Buy me a Beer?

You are going to need MUCH more support on your XZ frame! The thin ones on 1 and 2 are way too weak. 3 is better since it is shorter, but you really need to have a longer support on your Y, and a much wider base on the XZ frame to keep them from bending.

I like the Solidworks model. It looks pretty sturdy. One thing I would change is putting the whole x-axis on top of the x rails, not to the side. The way it is currently set up may cause problems with side loading the rails. You may want to test the rails yourself by hand to see if you get any flexing or part of the slide angling off. Just my 2 cents.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but you are asking for opinions. I'd be extremely concerned about leaving the drive screw on your y-axis unattached. I also noticed that there is a fair amount of distance between your gantry rails, you may have a problem with things binding up.

You're getting closer, back to the drawing board.

I noticed that too. I think he just wasn't doing the effort to include that in the drawing, not necessarily on the actual machine. But I agree. The rods need bearings or supports on the ends.

I don't think its back to the drawing board, the machine just needs some minor (and obvious) changes when looking strictly at the model.
