Hello I'm building my first CNC and I need to find a router for it, my machine is about 4ft by 4ft I'm using 80/20 to build it and I'm basically following www.pdjinc.com Pilot Pro Dual Rail CNC for the plans with a few mod's, the plans call for a Porter Cable Model # 7310, I will be using the HobbyCNC Pro Driver Board Kit and I would like to have a spindle speed control also, I'm not sure how to do the speed control yet but I need a router that will work with speed control, I will be cutting metal, aluminum, wood & plastic and any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

| Welcome to the Zone, Harbor Freight has a very inexpensive speed control that works with most routers. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=43060 Checkout the C6 - Variable Speed Control Board by CNC4PC http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/prod...products_id=58 This unit can be used on many motor controllers by replacing the potentiometer that controls the speed. A quick call or email to Arturo should confirm compatibly of the parts. Phone:561-208-6664 email: aduncan@cnc4pc.com Jeff...

| Best router is probably an HSD, Perske or Columbo spindle, which will start at around $2K. Next best is probably one of the chinese water cooled 2.2KW for $500-$600. They're speed can be controlled directly by a Gecko G540 or one of these if you're going the HobbyCNC route. http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/prod...products_id=61 A 7310 is not enough router for a 4x4 machine imo. It's too fast, too loud, and not nearly powerful enough. I'd say use at least a PC690, or the comparable hitachi that a lot of guys here have used.

| Hi The Makita RF1101 and Hitachi M12VC both have slow start, will that matter on using a speed controller? I've noticed somethings won't work with a slow start routers! I'm going to use Mach3 software also. Thanks |
