noob alert: recomend a design for these steppers

i purchased a matched set of 3 American Precision model M232-04 and was wondering if you had these motors what would you use them for? I want to do some miling of alum plate nothing major and not anything like 6061 or hardened alum. here is an example of something i want to do http://www.busch.nu/busch_svc-107td.htm its a faceplate for a hometheatre computer. I also want to do things like gauge pods or possibly a dash for a vehicle for a gauge cluster. I am looking at possibly 24x24 or maybe larger. I know the larger it is the slower ill have to go that wont be an issue. I can wait and dont need something to be completed before it starts and i can always upgrade later.

ultimately i want to use 8020 alum for the frame. I am thiking for the slides i can use a total of 8 bearings in 2 c-channel in an offset orientation

|0 0 | hope this shows up properly this will keep the gantry from lifting and make it stable. if anything ill use the 8020 for slides for the X. on the Y am thinking of http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...15978&tc=photo on two slides meaning a lower and upper for stability.

and finally http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...875111167&rd=1 for the Z

basicly the electronics i will sort out later as well as the ball screw or acme screw. I am not needing super acuracy just hoping for .01 even .05 would work do you think this will be possible? am i dreaming?

well after thinking about things and drawing on my desk i noticed i am sure a 12x24 will work fine. i know i know everyone wants a huge table right from the get go but i was thinking 2foot x 2foot was small but when looking at it laid out the 12x is fine. now i guess the question is will these motors work for what i am wanting to do. also how many people have used 8020 in thier construction and used the slides they sale?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...00471&tc=photo thats what i am wanting to use both in the gantry the y double stacked for support and cross bracing and on the x and cross bracing on the table.

total im looking at a rough 156" of stock +10% of waste. thats just for the table and gantry the gantry will be 12" from slide to top and then of course the y will be 6" so two stacked on the short side for 6" of cross brace. do you all think this wil be sturdy enough for milling soft alum?

and thank you all for such a great site.

just wondering if anyone had any idea if these motors i bought would work for a 12x24 moving gantry cnc for light alum. no thicker then say 1/8"

also does anyone know the specs on these motors they are slo-syn mp70-2a-z9-9z-002 120v .18 amp 300rpm@60hz. i ran across these at a surplus electronics place here in tulsa for 6 bucks a pop. didnt know if these would be usable for anything.

Buy me a Beer?

They look like standard synchronous steppers, they are designed to run at constant speed on 120vac, no good for CNC steppers, unfortunately.

well i went out and bought 8 dot matrix printers. some were okidata and some where fujitsu. the okidata's are the long carages so i scored some decent long slides. nothing heady duty but they are 3/8's i bought 4 of these for 5 bucks a pop thos were the okidata and the motors were crap 7* steps and 17 frames. i kept a couple to play with. they do have some nice big transformers that i will play with to see what output they have. ill be posting some pics shortly BTW.

the fuj are the ones i am proud of. they have some nice astrosyn steppers nothing heavy duty of course the 23lm motors just need to see what the ratings are, i have 2 matching ones i am sure of and 1 that dont. but the slides are whats nice. 7/16 or there abouts and the bearings are nice and smooth on them. wil be a nice little toy to play with maybe mill some plastic and light wood. also kept all the electronicsso i can see what is scavangeable. anyway picks to come.
