servo motors will not jog two direction

Hope someone can help me. I have a Mitsubishi MR-J2S-40A AC Servo Amp and motors. I have got this system off Ebay. I got directions has to how to wire it. and set it up with them instructions. I'm using Mach3 and a with a breakout board that came with the drives and amps.

So when I click on the X-jog the motor turns slow in one direction and when I click of the X+jog the motor still goes slow and in the same direction. if I switch the wires on the Dir and the cl ports the motors turns in the other direction. can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Have you went through the motor tunning in mach3 yet?
Did you set the step and direction pins and ports as well?

You running a parallel cable from the pc to the bob? Check that.

Yes I have gone through the Mach3 motor tuning, and yes I have set the pins and ports. I'm connected with a Parallel cable to the BoB, also when I click on the X+ the Green light on the BOB light up and the orange light just above it light also when I click on the X- the green light goes out and the orange light go on and off as I click on it, so I think the board is getting the signal but the amp is not relaying it on the the motor in the right way.

Do you have any experence withthe Mitsubishi servo amplifiers?

No sorry havnt done any work with them.

If you feel that the drives are working ok and the ports and pins/motor tunning is right, double check all your connections is all i can think of.

Solder joints i found are easy to overlook.

It sounds like you are using a pulse/direction interface.
It also sounds like your controller is good since you swapped the pins and got the motor to go the other direction.

Make sure the motor is set correctly in your software. Double check your connections. It could also be that the output from your computer is not working.

I think your parameters are set wrong. It sound like you have it set for CW/CCW input.

I use Parameter 21 set to 0001

And since the MR-J2S drives have and incredible step per turn you need to use electronic gearing (Parameters 3 and 4) to multiply the steps coming in to make them useful. Setting Parameter 3 to 10 would give you about 13100 steps per rev.

Macona

Just this morning I got the motors to run with the Serial cable and the software that is for the MR-J2S using a cable that is connected to the serial post of a computer and then to CN3 port. So I know the motor and amp are working now I just need it to communitate with Mach3.
But right now I can't get the motors to turn at all, think it was because I had the serial cable connected, I disconnected the cable and reset the servo (power on and power off), but still could not communicating with the servo throught the Mach3. Motors not moving at all now!

I'm so glad that you took the time to write me about the settings of the Parameter which means I'm on the right track. I just could not figure out the math when it come to the electronic gearing. So i will try your settings below.

Parameters 21 to 0001
(Parameters 3 and 4) to multiply the steps coming in to make them useful. Setting Parameter 3 to 10 would give you about 13100 steps per rev.

So the back to Mach3 what settings would I use to start out with-for motor
turning, and the encoding/mpg setting if any?

Thumbs up

Hi everyone you have visted this thread.

With all of your help I have been able to get the servos up and run and in both directions using Mach3. It would not have been so if you people did not responed to my cry for help. Also, by doing it with your help I have leaned a lot about my servo amp and motors.

SO AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!

I will not be calling you Eric!

As for the mach settings that is going to depend on a lot of things. There is the belting (if any) to your screws. Then there is the screw lead. Next is the electronic gearing set by parameters 3 and 4, and last is the maximum pulse rate that you can get out of mach. This last one will vary greatly depending on whether you are using the parallel port or something like a smoothstepper.

So the first thing you need to do is figure out how many pulses you have per inch of travel. If you have Param 3 set to 10 then you will need 13107.2 pulses per turn. multiply that by how many turns the screw need to give one inch of travel and you will have that number for mach3. Max velocity settings will be determined by the top frequency put out by mach and the machine itself. Acceleration will also be determined by the machine. Rigidity and mass will determine how fast you can accelerate. Start slow and work up. You can use the current monitor on the servo to watch the current used to get things moving.

Remember, this motor will put out over 1/2 HP continuously and triple that for short periods. Make sure you drive train can handle that.

Neat. Looks a lot like our ShopSabre at work. It uses some of the lower end Mitsubushi drives and motors as well.

This is the little guy I am finishing up. Ended up using a 400 watt motor on Z and 200 on X. Its overkill but its what I had...
