putting together my control box but have run into a bit of trouble choosing the best way to have my E-stop kill my spindle, motors and put my cnc router into a safe stopped mode. Apart from the above are there any other things that should also get killed when i hit my big red button? my set up so far: 65v 15a unregulated psu with a bank of caps adding up to 27200uF pmdx 132 bob 4 Gecko 203v 2.2kw spindle and VDF I have chosen 4 960oz nema 32 motors run at 7 amps in parallel at 65v (as recommended by rick from Homeshopcnc) so im assuming i leave each current set on the gecko open. Also can any one tell me if i should cut the motor wires close to the motors or should i just solder them to the longer wires and leave as much length in case i need to do some modding down the line Now what rating do i need for my e-stop switch? I am guessing i should get something rated higher than the 65v 15a of the power supply? Or since its just pulling the e-stop on the bob and dose not see much current or voltage. Can i use the relays on the pmdx to control the kill to the spindle? Do i need to set up a set of relays for the spindle kill or can i use the relays on the bob? thanks in advance! jestah |

| Typically, the estop switch itself controls a relay with multiple contacts so you can break multiple circuits with it (i.e. 24v and 110v and whatever). Look for an estop relay on ebay. There is a Gecko white paper on dumping the power from your power supply to resistors so the motors will stop quickly. there is enough juice in the power supply caps to keep your motors running for what would seem like an eternity if you had one of your body parts getting chewed up. My opinion is that the estop should stop the spindle, axis drives, and anything else with moving parts (coolant pumps, vaccuums, etc.). A wise man once told me "There are only two kinds of [fill in the component of your choice here]. Those that have failed, and those that are going to." |
