New CNC build, Part Machining sources?

Hello All,

I have finished the design of my new CNC router, and I am looking to have parts cut out of 6061 Aluminum for the Gantry side frames, and the router table/frame. Since the sides of my frame are about 49 inches, I was wondering if any of you know of any machining services I can use?

I have posted my request to the RFQ forum here, but so far only one person has replied, and at that, he was not able to handle the sides of the router. Any machining centers (online or otherwise) that any off you can recommend to get my parts cut?

I have attached a pic of the parts I need machined.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Making the sides 6.25 just makes you buy a lot larger piece of stock. Can you make them 6"? If so then it is just a drill press project for the sides and the gantry sides can be done on a lot of machines.

I can do 14" 29" with my table.

Thank you for your reply.

So, 1/4 of an inch shorter on the sides will make this more doable? I really do not see where 1/4 will make a difference, since I think it is the Length of the side part, and not the height.

Yes, the holes are a drill press project, but the sides would also need to be cut straight and true, something which a band saw will not always do a good job at, but a CNC machine will.

Anyway, I think the economy is really not that bad, since not many are willing to take the job on, but it might also be that I am looking for a first run, and not many parts.

Anyway, thanks again!

Other then local machine shops, you could try precisiontechmachining.com. They are turning the ends of some custom leadscrews for me and I think they'll make what ever you want.

I am looking for the near identical pieces for my router project. Just a little different dimensions. Will you please update the thread or PM me when you find a place to do it, what the cost was, and the quality.

Thanks!

Also, there's always emachineshop.com -- download and use their free CAD program and it will provide a price right away. Not the greatest prices, but it's an easy option.

Yeah, I know about emachineshop....here are my problems with it:

-They require you use their OWN program to design, and it is an EXTREMELY limited package....not bad if they allowed you to import stuff....reading through it they said they support solidworks...WOW! I thought, I am in business....

Let me tell you, the importer for solidworks is complete trash, it does not recognize half the features....anyway I thought, let me try just ONE part...I did, and after being done, for 6061 aluminum, they quoted me $700.00 for a SINGLE part....that is when I deleted anything from them....they make life difficult, and they are VERY expensive....

In comes trimtoolmachine. They are a bunch of VERY NICE folks...Dave there is the best! Not only did he respond to me right away, but he was one of the nicest persons I have ever talked to...

http://trimtoolmachine.com/

My parts are now all being machined by them, and get this, $800.00 FOR ALL OF THEM!!

I could not be happier with their service, and they made a customer for life.

thank you all for your suggestions.
