My CNC table is getting there ![]() I tried to link to a you tube movie here, but I couldn't figure out how. If you goto www.liming.org/cnc and scroll to the bottom of page 4, you can see the movie there. Now, I need to get a better router and cut something! Last edited by revwarguy; 06-14-2009 at 05:28 PM. Reason: you tube link??? |

Ok, lets try this one... Thanks, I was trying to make it too hard. Understand, this movie was made for complete newbies (like myself) who don't yet know the terminology. |

| Very inspiring build! I read through your entire site and it seems that you are an electrical engineer? I loved your build details and the way you configured the gantry z-rails (I might have to steal that from you ). Get rid of the hf router - like putting a $5 spray-can paint job on a ferrari - your build deserves a nice router. I hope mine turns out as well. Congrats! |

Well, the HF router is one I had on hand - you're right. Thinking about a Bosch Colt - any thoughts? (a refurb for $75 on amazon!) The real problem is the design for the router mount - I am thinking about two Vee shaped pieces clamping together, or something else. ![]() I am very happy with the design of table otherwise. I've noticed that while executing an actual gcode program, the whole table has a tendancy to wobble and shake just a bit from the movement of the gantry and carriage. I am thinking of some side bracing, or even attaching a corner to a floor joist support pole in my basement - but then the router noise might be be transmitted to the whole house! |

| There are a couple mounts already made for the Fireball V90 cnc kit that will adapt a Colt router to that machine. You could easily pick one of them up and modify it or your Z axis plate to mate up. Here's the link to the MCPI one: http://www.mcpii.com/Nicknacks.html |

Well, I just ran the same test as in the movie, but after it goes back the first time, it traced a 7X10 rectangle 100 times. When it moved back to the last corner, it returned to zero and there was still under a thousandth difference! I guess this says that any creeping errors are subtracting each other out? |

| It means that your machine is VERY repeatable. I think the story will be complete when you cut out your first parts. There are some machines that are very repeatable, but not very accurate (they will cut things a little off, but they will do the same thing each time). I think yours will turn out to be both accurate and repeatable ... Just thinking out loud here: I think the acid test for a machine like this would be to run a fine grid pattern of lines with the spindle turned off and a scribe needle in the collet. Scribe onto a sheet metal plate with dykem blue on it for contrast. The moire pattern generated should tell you how accurate the machine is ... I might try this myself if I ever get my machine completed |
