Hot cutter

Hi All

I have been using my home built router for a year now and a couple of weeks ago I decided to give it a good service. I use to cut mdf boards at 1500mm per min with an old black & Decker router. 600w 30000 revs. Runs a dream but I do get clogging on the cutter with mdf. The cutters I use are down cut carbide 3mm and 5mm. As I was doing my service I decided to over come this problem. I tweaked mach3 and I can now get a speed of 3500mm per min of travel. But I have set it to 2500mm per min. The cutter cuts perfect and no clogging. But the cutter gets hot and makes the bearing in my router hot. I need the speed to too keep clog free.

Any ideas??

Roger

Are you sure it's not the bearings getting hot and making the cutter hot? Run the router for a little while without cutting to check. You may need new bearings in the router.

If it is the cutter getting hot, the only thing you can do is lower the rpm's and/or move faster. But cutting creates a lot of heat, and there's not a lot you can do about it. Using a bit cleaner to keep the bit clean can help. Or if possible, blow compressed air on it while cutting.

Hi Gerry
Been busy repairing. The bearing had gone. Striped it down to take it out and this time was impossible. I had a brand new back up that I purchased two years ago. Never used it just tested it out. Put that one on and the fan just disintegrated. Well that was that. So I bought a Kress 1050. What a tool. This tool is first class. I needed a bracket to hold that so I clamped it on with jubilee clips. I cut a hole 43mm dia in 20mm thick ally and it fitted perfect. I can run at 3000mm per min plus, and my cutters stay cool and clog free.

Well Back to work now in half the time.
Thanks Gerry.

Roger
