I am in the process of building a 3 axis CNC router that uses 300 oz-in servos driven by Gecko's. I have been looking at Keling 50v/20a power supply but since I am on a tight budget I have started looking at used power supplies from a local industrial surplus warhouse. Besides input power, output VDC and amps is there anything else I should be aware of with industrial power supplies? |

| Input 120VAC or 220VAC (depending on what you need), 60 or 50Hz single phase. Doubt you will hit multiphase power supplies for such a small unit, but still. I would probably shy away from a regulated power supply, unless you really needed one (e.g. close to the voltage limit of your drivers and steppers). It is an additional cost, plus might have parts that will be harder to replace if they breakdown. A simple transformer/rectifier/filter cap power supply would be good. Check the electrolytic caps for bulging or leakage. Elec caps do age and if too old should be replaced. If you can, take a scope with you you can check for ripple. |
