Hello everyone. I'm a NOOB. 1: I was checking out this 2.2kw spindle motor on ebay. It says it comes with an inverter. Whats the inverter for? Powering the motor on and off? Changing speeds? 2: With spindle motors are they usually operated(on off chagne of speed) manually or by a computer? 3: Does anyone know of a good place or more with VERY specific details on building a cnc router? A place that will run me though everything I need in detail? That would be great. I read a post somewhere on this site that there's a sticky with info on spindle motors but cant find it. I need information. lots of it. 4: What does runout mean? Or runoff?!?!?! This is it for now. Thanks. Last edited by cvriv.charles; 04-24-2009 at 05:24 AM. |

| 1) The Inverter provides the 3 phase power that the spindle needs, and also controls the speed of the spindle. 2) Either way. 3)This site. Start reading. ![]() 4) Runout is how "out of round" the spindle is.

| Thanks Is there a huge difference between a 110v and a 220v spindle of the same kind? Maybe power wise? Runout,... are you refering to the off center spinning of the router bit?!?! I have a regular router and it SERIOUSLY suffers from this. It's so bad I hate using it. It's a fairly new router too. Anyways. Thanks for the info. |

| Afaik, the 2.2KW spindles are all 220V? Actually, the Inverters are 220V. Yes runout would be the bit wobbling. A good quality router shouldn't have much at all.

| Watt is a unit of power. A spindle of 1500 watts should produce the same power no matter the input voltage. When you use a VFD, what you have is a variable frequency drive. If the motor has a native speed of 1725 rpm at 60hz what is the speed at 360hz? 1725 x 360/60 = 10350rpm. At 400hz it would run at 11500 rpm. If it was 3450 native at 60hz top speed would be 23000 rpm. This is probably what most of these spindles are capable of. |
