V-Carve chatter

Anyone know how to get rid of vcarve chatter? This is my first vcarve on my Joe's Hybrid.

1/2" 90 deg v carve bit
20,000 - 22,000 RPM
100 IPM feed rate
acceleration set at 15 in Mach

material 5/8" MDF

Buy me a Beer?

Are you cutting it in one pass?

I generated the toolpath with vcarve pro using the vcarve toolpath included with the demo file for the bullshead vcarving.

It is
0.25" pass depth
final pass stepover 0.01" 2.0 %
clearance pass stepover 0.1" 20%

Perhaps all you need is to take a roughing pass first, then a finish pass maybe .01" deeper.

It could also be due to a dull cutter: if it takes a bit of 'push' to get it to cut, it will deflect momentarily, then hog in. It may take some tool shopping to find the ideal tool for a router doing V carve.

Hi, nice work.

I am just guessing here, but it looks like there is a general vibration as it shows up in every cut and direction of cut.

My seat of the pants guess is that the router mounting plate is vibrating - sort of like a tuning fork. Try stiffening up the mount plate with a gusset of some kind to the vertical plate on your Z axis. The dust collector hanging out on the end is probably not helping but might be ok. Mounting it off to the side is potentially a benefit.

edit - well, I see now that the real experts have weighed in with better answers. Still, perhaps try running it without the dust collector to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks I appreciate the advice...this is the first vcarving I have done so have nothing to compare it to.

Edit: I noticed you are in Canada...are you close to Edmonton ?

Very good point...I used to have it tied up the z-axis but forgot to put it up again after I recently had it apart. I should trycutting one without the dust shoe attached. I could try different RPM settings as well.
