| I've had a few things shipped from China. The majority of which was from businesses (dealextreme.com, stuff from eBay) but at least once I got something shipped to me from an individual. So far I haven't paid any duty fees, I'm not sure why. I'm in the US by the way. Maybe USA doesn't charge anything for imports... or maybe the sellers marked the packages as "gifts". |

| The biggest challenge (for you) is the unknown. I don't mean that in a scare tactic way, just reality. There is no way to really know what you are going to get - good, bad, or indifferent. The Chinese society is based on relationships, not on western business concepts. If you don't have an existing relationship with someone in China, your risk is very high that you will not get what you expect. I guess you have to really ask yourself a basic question - there is so much economic destruction in North America right now that there is a huge supply of used, very good quality equipment. Maybe this is also interesting ? |

| importingfrom china isnt any different than importing from any other country the problem is finding companies in china that don't over charge killer prices for shipping , product cost generally doubles if not more the second shipping costs are added , ive looked into a large number of warehouse products from china and the calculated end result was it being cheaper to buy the same or better product locally at retail , from a business stand point i think its a joke and i wouldnt even concider it for a personal purchase

| i agree made in america is the best way to make us strong, but when the big bussines men have sold the patients to off shore companies where they lost the rights to make that product here,,,,its sad... Or where there so much middle men it over prices some products.... we need to have good jobs good products available almost directly to the consumer... Heres what I found servo / step motors 3x cheaper that the adversted usa price... and they are from the same source.. if you buy 2 units you break even... if ship more than that you save a lot ....shipping cost are not that much more for few more units.. |

![]() Not to mention that they do not have an OSHA or EPA like we do. Their government does not care. Then again, neither does ours.

| OH! It's so easy! You just BUY BUY BUY! As long as you can have it shipped in via Postal service, you won't have to worry about customs, customs agents, duties or tarrifs, it's the american way! We send all our money to China! It's great! Save another dollor, who cares if your neighbor loses his/her job, you just saved a buck! And when you lose your job, don't worry! Unemployment benefits were just extended and all that good chinese junk at Wal-Mart is so cheap, you'll have more time to shop! Oh, and don't worry, unemployment insurace funds aren't going to run out, we'll just borrow more money from China! One, two, three and GO! |

| I remember a Tea Party that took place in Boston. It was called the "Boston Tea Party". Maybe it is time to have another one. Too much "Taxation without Representation" these days.

| OP, i've been importing garments from china for the past 20 years. using commercial freight forwarder will pay off for large items and bulk... using DHL, fedex or ups is convenient because it is a one stop deal but you will incur hefty duty and freight. there are also some "handcarry" companies that service "small business" that ships very quickly and is also somewhat cheaper than couriers. these carriers are normally korean based and service major US cities such as LA, NYC and maybe Chicago/Georgia... they service lot of the smaller garment industry... they have regional offices in china such as Shanghai, Qingdao and maybe Beijing... but again, i've used these companies for small garment shipments in couple of cartons and such... duties will depend on the HTS codes... you can google for harmonized tarrif schedule for the items... normally freight forwarders will be able to provide this to you. |
