Newbie- Bought some cheap steppers, can't get them to turn.

Hi all, I bought some cheap steppers, (if they are steppers). They are Molon model # LMO-6360-1. They were $.95 at a surplus store. They have 4 wires; a red, a white, and 2 black. I hooked 'em up to a univelop board with a computer power supply, and tried to test them with VBstepper. I used the 5v for the board power and a 12v for the motors. when I hit the start botton the motors just lock up, get real hard to turn them by hand. They don't jitter or get hot, just stiffin up. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

The steppers are functioning as they should be. Steppers DO lock up at rest. Now you just need to send them some step and direction signals to make them turn.

Whoops, I'm using VBStepdir in xp from stepperworld.

I understand, so when I hit start and the counter starts rolling, shouldn't the motor start turning and the rate selected? Thats when they lock or rest. When I stop the cycle the motor frees up like there's no power to it.

Sounds like step/direction signals are not making it to controller. Make sure you are using a "straight thru" parallel cable. Check in bios that PP is activated and software has correct PP address.
