I have seen ABs made from MDF, plastic and aluminum. Is there something that I can purchase off the shelf made from metal that I can turn into a AB? I'm pricing some 1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch aluminum to make them myself but if I can get something that is half way there then all the better. |

| Last month when I made mine I tried MDF...terrible.No strength at all in the threads. I tried hard maple, because I had some. Better than MDF, but still not great. Then I used aluminum.Cost more, took more time, but well worth it. Looks nice and works great. I used a friends mill which made it easy and pretty quick, but with patience you can easily do a nice job with a hole saw and a drill press. 1/2 inch aluminum would only leave 1/8 of meat on both sides of a 1/4 bolt, 3/4 would be better.
