I have used and uses a step-four mill for manufacturing Guitars ( www.jens-h.dk) It was beginning to be to little and slow for my needs, and there was also some issues in stability. I desided to build my own, designed to my needs. Data: X=1050mm;Y=450mm;z=150mm (can handle the outline of a guitar.) Ball guides and ball spindels. Feed > 5000 mm/min. Servo motors for loops feadback (I have destroyed som guitarbodys because of losing steps) nema23 DCservo. Here is some pictures. The construction drawing ![]() I have run the machine with the motors, and the axis work well up to 7000mm/min. They are very strong. I have some problems with the limits switch, but the disapear when I change cable to screened cable. Know I only have to do the final alignments, and get to know the software. |

| Hey Jens that is a beautiful machine you have there, I too am building my MDF homebrew CNC for guitars and various other stuff. I have seen your site and must say you have the CNC off to a T amazing work. After building by hand for the last 25 years and the decline of the economy I have come to the conclusion people will not pay for handmade pieces anymore so to reduce my time and labour costs CNC is the way to go, I never thought I would say that but its true. Inlay work will be a breeze and all the hard roughing and carving by hand will be all CNC it just makes sense. I would like to build my next one from aluminum and will follow your thread as its a true inspiration well done my man! Laz. |

| Jen, Are the long aluminum side rails solid or are they tubing or C channel? Looks very sturdy whatever it is! Jeff...

| Hello Jens H, Good day. if I am not wrong, I saw on your CAD drawing that u will drive x axis with 2 motor. But in one of your picture x drive is in the center. Which one is right? If u drive x axis with 2 motor, is it OK with control. |

| @asuratman: No, I only have one motor in center, and timing belt to 2 spindles. I have a little youtube with the router in action. It is recorded on my camara, with the other hand on the Emergency stop. (its the first guitarbody I made on the machine. |
