Dead CNC Shark - Proper forum?

Sorry to bug folks, fairly new to CNCzone.

My "CNC Shark™" related thread here was deleted from the forum "Commercial CNC woodworking Routers" as irrelevant, (it seemed the most applicable forum to me) - Having bought a "CNC Shark" I don't feel very DIY (though I think I am at heart). If I am in-fact not DIY, if anyone can "route" me to the right forum here it'd be super appreciated....

if I am in the right place, here's my post,...

I've only had my CNC Shark for a week. I'm well versed with CNC and fairly computer savy, so I'm stumped here...

I was just getting into my first real project when all of a sudden the head/gantry on my CNC Shark stopped moving in the middle of a job, the NCPod control panel still continued processing the instructions but no movement. Same with jogging - it acts like it's sending the instructions (xyz position indicator changes), but the machine doesn't move. I unplugged, replugged, restarted, everything. even un/reinstalled the driver, no luck. the control box seems to be working, the software thinks it's connected, everything seems fine, just no movement on any axis - via jog or via Gcode. I'm bummed as the job is due this week. I have a call into 'Next Wave Automation', but eager to get back operational so I'm curious if anyone has run into this / wanted to share the experience if anyone does in the future.

thanks,
Steve Ogden

Sounds like a movement motor has blown. Its connected to the machine, the machine believes its moving however no motor no movement - So the software thinks everything is going all fine and dandy but in actuality nothing moves. You should know this cause when you tell the machine to jog - it actually doesn't move at all.

I would say check for fuses first.

Check for proper voltage out of the power supply, then check it at the input to the controller board, and at the breakout board if there is one. There could be a blown fuse at any of the three boards. If a fuse is blown on one of the boards, there is probably a reason for it. The cause needs to be determined or the fuse will just blow again.

Resistance is not futile. It is voltage divided by current (R=V/I).

Result - Fried controller

Thanks for the input everyone. Turns out the controller died. In case anyone else runs into this with the shark. The guys at nextwave were able to help me troubleshoot it by noting that the drivescrews could be turned by fingers with the unit powered on. (in combo with the symptoms stated above.) - The cause is unknown, but what concerned me is shortly after troubleshooting but before packing it up for return I realized it had been on for a couple hours, and now the fan had stopped running, yet still powered on. It was thus extremely hot and in fact next wave noted it was melted inside when they received it. (chain reaction effect?)
I don't believe the dust cabinet I had it in was near enough ventilation, something to keep in mind for other newbies. These things need plenty of ventilation. Also hoping nextwave will consider adding fuses that might make it less of a fire hazard in case I left for the day before checking in on it. The week I'm losing getting it back is a bummer, but overall nextwave was pretty helpful.
