May be a stupid question but I work in the automation industry and have yet to see a spring loaded pinion running on a rack. I find many machines on here that have this feature?? Why do people do this on DIY machines? Is it because of alignment issues? Is it a protection device? Why not just have an adjustment for the gear pre-load? |

| Even though the spring is probably not the best method, it's the easiest.
