Hi Russell! That's a very interesting machine design.

Are you worried about the amplification of slop (vertical and horizontal) when the arm is out at the max extension?

Buy me a Beer?

Hi Roman, my friend that did the design for this machine has built a similar machine with a 1200 mm span and says it works fine, one way to find out

Russell.

The Z axis has been re-designed to be a little more streamlined, and the plate connecting the X and Y linear rails is done, now the machine can be pushed along on two axis nicely, the Z ballscrew and linear rails are ready to bolt on, I need to make the plate to bolt the spindle onto next...

Of course without photo's it never happened so here you go

At least you've got a shed. I've got to build one so I can clean out the garage. Then maybe I'll have room for my machine.

Hi Bob, well I haven't had the shed all that long, I built most of my first machine on the patio

Some more done today, after much staring at the machine working out a plan of attack, I started the Y axis servo and ballscrew mount.

Just to make things interesting I used my old red machine to do the work, the stepped part along the edges were already done but I did the rest...worked a treat !

Lots and lots of fine aluminium snow covering the shed floor and red machine

Results were worth it though.

Mate,

Its looking great, and its good to see more progress. I know first hand, that staring at the machine is no good. Whats the saying, if stuck start drilling holes...lol.

Hi Daniel, yeah staring doesn't get much done...but you have to start somewhere, lol

Hopefully I will look at machining up the Z axis servo mount tomorrow, I am really happy how the old red machine went doing this work, I slowed everything down and took it steady and it didn't miss a beat.

I am already thinking of what I can do with the next machine...

Russell.

Russell,

Now you just need to hang a tilt and rotate spindle from the Z for a 5 axis machine.

It looks great, I'm looking forward to seeing it running.

I must be starting alot then since i star at the machine every day at the moment. lol.

I'm just resting on my excuses that i am helping my mate locally with his plasma and its taking all my time. Really starting to have withdrawals now so starting to push again with my upgrade since i'm almost finished my mates plasma now.

Yeah, i'm also thinking about what to scan on my new 3d scanner that i will build one day, the stuff i could turn on the lathe i'd like to make and what my parents could make on the machine they want me to make. lol. Gotta find some thinking time for my machine between these and work. lol.

Great to hear the red beast worked great. Was gunna ask which machine you were doing it all on. Can't wait to see the next installment.

Daniel
