Newbie- Two steppers behind one G203V driver?

I tried to find similar threads so I post question, sry if similat threads been here I didnt find it.
Is it possible to drive two identical stepers behind one driver?
I want upgrade my router get new drivers, and want get maximum from steppers. Possible that in future I will buy bigger steppers.
At the moment x-axis was driven by two steppers with individual drivers and one works as slave axis.
Right now I have 4th axys Xylotex with 296oz.in 2.8A per phase.

I have limitet budget and have money for 3xG203V drivers, G203V can handle 7A and I think it can drive two motors at once theroticaly
Other option buy G540 it will be cheaper but in other way if I want upgrade steppers for bigger one it means that I need upgrade drivers again. Maybe better to buy more advanced right now to save some money in future?

If it can be done I will buy G203V, but how it can be done properly?

I don't think you can run 2 steppers on 1 driver, don't know the reason you cant but I know you cant. The g540 are the better choice, but then again depends on what your trying to do, the size of your machine. If your trying to get more speed out of your Xylotex then change your screws? You may get more speed with the gecko,s but can your screws handle it before they start to whip? Graham

Recomended not to pair up your motors on a single G203V. This model has advanced control that can throw off the synchronization of the two steppers. This occurs when one motor has more torque demand then the second. See the FAQ on the gecko website. It has the full explanation there.

Typically you can do this with simple controllers though...but you loose the performance that the Geckos give you...not worth it...buy a bigger stepper, rethink your design. Two motors controlling one axis is generally a bad way to go. If you are trying to sync two screws, then use a synchronous pulley/belt to link them together.
