Most of the small CNC machines have the lead screw under the table right in the middle, between the rails. If I use 20mm THK rails on my machine (28” x 20”) is it a bad idea to position the lead screw (for the X axis) right next to one of the rails? I don’t want to have anything under the table. The machine is quite rigid imho. What do you experts think? Thanks, Alex |

| The problem with having the screw on the side is that the gantry is going to tourque when its under pressure. That one side will be pulled easily, but the other side really doesnt have much to keep it moving so the sides may become uneven and then you will have problems. You can go with one on each side if you really dont want anything in the middle, maybe go with some smaller ballscrews than you were originally thinking and then get two instead of one. Good Luck!
