Hey all, I am looking (again) into building a CNC for doing some woodworking and have fun building a CNC machine in the first place. Let's first state that I am living in Quito / Ecuador and that here we don't have a easy we to acquire some of the products needed for building a CNC table, so that needs to get ordered from overseas, highly likely the US. What I want to build is a table in the order of XYZ: 1200x800x100mm working dimensions It's not solid I 'need' that but that's a good estimate where to start. I have seen Joe's great plans and if there is any MDF work to be done I make that here fairly easily. I do have the woodworking skills. When it comes to electronics I would rather by something off-the-shelf then make it my own. Over here it's sometimes VERY hard to get even the simplest things for example a O ring transformer is VERY hard to find here...), I don't want to start about stepper motors...... So I would like to buy some package that has all/most of the goodies like the drivers, stepper motors for the size of my machine and spindles in one package, and buy the common part here in Ecuador (MDF, pipes, screws, bearings etc...). I also would rather not design a machine myself, but get one of the open source design and start from there. I do have access to a good metal working shop here because my father in law has all the good tools for metal working, and I have quite some tools for woodworking...hurray! Any advice would by highly appreciated specialy : - What would bu a todays good open source CNC router design - Where can I buy a package with the stepper motors, drivers etc.. the mechmate can have several sort of motors, some people do have good experience with these Nema 34 960 oz/in in direct drive or using a gearbox, but I am planning to buy motionking motors type : 34HS9801. They are $50 each and I have had at least one report of somebody that uses these for several months now on his mechmate. Sending 50 steppers over to Ecuador would cost me For the stepper motors driver I am planning to use the G203V from Geckodrive. Nothing bought yet, but heading towards that direction... Currently looking for a CNC laser cutter in Quito, Ecuador ![]() Ries Ries |
