Newbie- Digitizing with a CNC router????

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use a cnc router to plot points in order to re-create a part? I work on several small parts that are not very complex but in order to cut them out with our CNC router, our engineer has to draw a 2D sketch that I transfer into G-code to use with WinCNC. I am wondering, if I have a sample part I can lay out on the table if it would some how be possible to plot it using the router itself. Our engineer is swamped and usually takes 2-3 weeks to get me a drawing. Any input is apprectiated.

I was looking up this topic the other day. The Artsoft Mach 3 website has info for building a touch probe which can be used in Mach 3. Also you could probably use a camera for digitizing.

Actually there is a point cloud plugin on Mach3 site... it allows you to use a touch probe to do just what you want. Read through the forum and learn from the users on how its done... www.machsupport.com....

Just noticed you are using Wincnc...Someone chime in...I dont think you can use the trial Mach3 for pointcloud......
