Hi all for the past year I have been designing and making my very own cnc router and have finaly got somthing to show for it I have very nearly made itand would like some help on what stepper motors to use I was looking at this kit http://www.motioncontrolproducts.co....products_id=58 and am not sure if they are a good make and if they have the power to move my gantry. The size of my cnc is about 1m by 0.8m working area the moving gantry is about 35kg rather heavy tbh pics to follow shortly. So to recap asre these motors, power supply etc any good are the a well known make and from the spec sheet of the motors etc have they got a fair bit of power?. p.s just getting photos now brb. thanks in advance dan |

| Hi Dan Your machine is looking good. I'm building one along the same lines as yours. The motors and drivers are the same as you intend to get. I would very interested in some close up detail photos of your nut setup and bearings. I have yet to finalise a decision on precisely how I'm going to do it. Good luck, and I look forward to see more of your build. Tony |

I am chuffed tbh its my own desighn I dident copy no plans and so far its great a few little probs but still. one thing I have learnt im going to allways use fully supported rails through out next time less on the z axis cus no matter what u will allways get play in the end im hoping i get little play on the y axis when i cut should be ok |

| It's good to design it yourself, self satisfaction is a confidence booster. Here is a couple of photos of mine. I'm in the process of getting some box section mild steel for the base, and somehow trying to figure a way of making "pockets in the side of the gantry for the bearings. I have bored some 1 1/2" round ali with Delrin pressed in to make the nuts. I'll see how that works out tomorrow when I thread them. Tony |

| Spending twice as much as you need to. Chopper drives aren't as nice or efficient as PWM drives. You're also not getting mid resonance damping. For 1/2 the cost of the drives and breakout board, a GeckoG540 would work much better. Your router is also a good size for smaller motors. Those 34 frame motors are HUGE and much more than you need. A problem of those large motors is that they are slower. Yes, they will work, but smaller is actually better for your needs. |

| allrighty pwm, chopper you have lost me maybe I should look at the electrical side more the mechanical side is easy for me the building of the machine so to speak I suppose I should go and studdy on what others have used for same machine size etc. smaller would be better then the ones I want are over kill well that good to hear as I thought my machine was way to heavy. so where could I get a complete kit ready to plug into pc remember I live in uk cheers all. |

(Also you forgot the bit about "morphing to full step" for the 540) stk2008 can you use 4 axis' all at once? I only use A Y Z for round objects. It needs to turn feed and cut...=3?
