I'm fasinated by these machines. Been lurking a bit and want to build one. I have a very detailed wood shop so tools aint a problem. I'm curious what a begginer CNC wanna be would build. What model i.e jgro etc would you suggest trying to build. I like the MDF idea because it's not real expensive. Please, help a wannabe out : ) Thanks in advance |

| There is almost an infinite amount of options to consider. Budget, table size, the sytle of your machine (do you want the gantry to remain stationary and the table to move or vice versa), travel/feedrate speeds, quality of cut, tolerances are just a few. What are you planning to cut with your table? Beings this is your first build I'd say the MDF idea is a good one from the cost side, but it won't be as fast or as sturdy as an 80/20 extrusion or a steel table would be. Hope this helps, Mike |

| Looking to cut wood and maybe plastics. Signs etc. Small wood parts. I was looking at joes CNC but I dont think the plans are free or I cant seem to find them. Looking for the table to remain fixed. Nothing too big either 2x2 or 2x4 or close to that. |

| Joe posted a link to the plans, but I don't know where it is. Ask him in the "Joes" section. If you have good woodworking skills, Joe's 2006 is probably the way to go.
