2 AXIS Build

Anyne have plans available for a simple 2 axis setup Just need X & Y as the Z would be fixed at a specific height the overall design would inclde a router and a foot print of 12" x 48" for tapering wood dowels the dowel would be spun on an independent 4th axis that motor driven on it own....

Any ideas people would like to share would be awesome

Why not use a wood lathe? At least it would give you a starting base.

Two Axis Machine

You might want to check out the Legacy Ornamental Mills web site for idea's or it might even be a good place to start, since you dont need a CNC to cut a tapered dowel.

Let me expand on what I want. I am turning pool cue shafts and butts I already have lathes with taper bars however I want something less tome consuming than adjusting taper bars for various contured tapers/ I have a spare taig extended bed lathe setup just need to adapt to a cnc foundation

I looked saw machines and none are CNC so the one I considered you would still need a taper bar for each taper. Right now I have at least a dozen different taper I have used the CNC would allow these saved and key up what taper your working on and let the program run

Smile saw lathe

the one i have uses templates that bolt on. i can change from a billiard taper to a pro taper in about 10 minutes. i use one blade for roughing & another for finishing. befoe i had the saw lathe i hab a 36inch lathe that is semi auto. set up for differeny shafts or a butt, put your wood in & turn it on. when it finished it will shut off. reset put in another piece & cut again; i still use this for my butts because i can set it to cut for a wrap. greg
