| I'm planning my second machine now that my first machine is running and able to make parts for No 2. ![]() I have two ball screws to drive the gantry, each having it's own stepper naturally. My question is, is it really necessary to tie the two together with a belt to keep them in sync? Thanks Hager Wow, post no 1001 Last edited by Mr.Chips; 09-14-2008 at 11:23 PM. | Mr Chips /Khalid- Congrats -- Me Too! Khalid your answer was missing - I 'd assume you add the following:If you are going to use 2 steppers - one per each screw on the X axis - and I suspect you're using MACh2/3 from previous messages - save the belts trouble and set one as the master the other as slave/sync that way. Bringing back the build one to bootstrap the next! Congrats! I assume you're planning o direct drive? If belting anyway - (gear reduction ) this approach would require you to build 2 units - one for each screw. Jim

When you say "set one as Master and the other as Slave/Sync and bootstrap". Sorry I don't understand. I plan on using two driver cards correct? and the "Master,Slave,Bootstrap/Sync" is a set up in Mach 3, Correct? I checked the Mach 3 index and no listing, also did a CNCZone search and only found Bootstrap refering to "Caps" and electronic componets, but I didn't look at every find. Could you give me a link to where this is discussed? I haven't read about any of these terms before. Thanks Hager Last edited by Mr.Chips; 09-15-2008 at 09:33 AM. Reason: Added more text to clarify |
