EPDM foam cord gasket

Everyone that has dealings with vacuum tables is talking about EPDM foam cord gasket but no one has mentioned it where to get the stuff. I can find plenty of weatherstripping and most of it is not completely round. It always has a flat side that is designed to go against a door/window frame.

Is there anything else that can be used for a vacuum table with routed grid pattern channels.

Thanks Gerry, and for your effort.

I did contact the joint that sells the stuff and they acted like they own the universe. A $100 for a small roll of 1/4" EPDM pipe, PLEASE. Just for comparison: a 10' wide X 50' long roll of 3/32' EPDM sells for $180 locally.

Is there anyone else but these resellers? Who makes the stuff so that I can sell it at $50 a roll; and I would still feel guilty about it.

Can you DIY it? You know, like make your own O-Ring? Yes - time is money - but there ought to be a trade-off there. Making O-rings and gaskets is not that hard - and you'd have stock on hand for the next! I had to make gaskets for 12 waterproof hatches/ports - now they're working like they ought too.

The flat material is a lot cheaper than the round, I think. ~$75 worth of material lasts us several years in a commercial shop where our machine is running all day every day.

You can get self adhesive for much cheaper as well.

Jim I know where you is coming from and the whole process and all I'm saying is that some business think that if you spend $5k on a table they can keep on buttering you up. If I wanted to chase that I would let my secretary do this forum.

Take care and stay with luck on your side.

I was in the glass industry for 30+ years and I know a flat gasket upside down and how to stop a 200 mph blowing rain from coming in on any high rise building so flat stuff is no problem.

It takes a thousand bucks to fab a extrusion die for this stuff and then you order it by 500lbs worth of material to be extruded for a minimum order. 500lbs of foam EPDM is a million miles of 1/4" tubing.

Someone is milking someone here and as long as they stay still, they will be milked dry.

I just need a gasket, not a Ferrari. Bob seems to be on the $.

And after all, should not there be a separate section just for vacuum table in this forum since everyone uses them? It could be broken down to tables, pumps, gaskets, and applications. If there is a separate forum for cnc toy routers, the toothpick stuff, why not for a tool that is implemented by many more applications.

Thanks and take care,
Gary
