| I believe a firewire cable would probably have too thin conductors for your average stepper motor. The wire gauge determines the current carrying capability, e.g a quick link I Googled: http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm As for connectors D-sub connectors (such as the one used for the serial or parellel port) can work well, I belive they're usually rated around 5A per pin. Molex mini-fit are another type of low cost connector that should work well. Try your local electronics store? I see you are in Norway so I'm not sure what's out there. I'm sure there are a few companies who sell out of catalogs (RS electronics?). There are a lot of options in the US but it probably wouldn't make sense for you... |

| I used Starquad mic cable. The conductors aren't particularly heavy duty, but the cable is intentionally very flexible therefore well suited to repeated stressing on a CNC machine. Starquad had 4 conductors and a shield (which I didn't use in the end), and is made by Van Damme. As for plugs, I didn't bother since my machine is self contained and it's possible to damage the driver board if wires are accidently disconnected. However, anything which can handle your current levels would be suitable. Again from the audio world, XLR-type connectors could be good since they have locking latches. |
