1. Does a support bearing for the ends of a ball-screw/acme-screw need to be "precision"? Or, will "Standard" type "Mounted Bearings" like a pillow block or flange mount be just as good? 2. I see some people buy the bearing races and mount it themselves. Besides being cheaper is there some special reason for this? Is there something your doing to make it better than a pillow block or flange mount bearing? Why are you going to all that extra trouble? 3. Please answer any questions I wasn't intelligent enough to ask! LOL. Diatribes, rants, tirades, long windedness, and lectures appreciated! P.S. I just got some standard .5" bore, 4 flange bearings ($7.95) from Surplus Center and wow! They seem great! No wobble or slack at all. Just nice smooth bearings. If the standard cast iron mounted bearings are all like this then I don't see why I can't use them for my Y-axis ball-screw. Last edited by samualt; 09-16-2004 at 07:09 PM. |
