Buy me a Beer?
How much did it cost you???

For the newbies out they please post a break down of how much your CNC wood router machine cost you to build. Post the cutting area and the type of control (servo, stepper) and software. Also how many hours it took to complete it.

Total Cost: $4000 Hardware
Cutting Area: 4'x8'x10"
Servo Motors: 3 motors at 1500 ozin peak, nema 42
Controller: 3 x Rutex Controllers with motherboard and IO card.
Frame: Aluminum T-Slots
Linear Bearings: THK Rails on all three axis.
Actuators: 2 ball screws, 1 rack-and-pinion
Hour to complete: One Year
Plans: My own design
Software: Rhino 3D, Visual Mill, Mach2

Actually, I'm just finishing mine, but I finally got all the parts. Add another $500 for tools, and another $500 in mistakes. If I had used plans I could have done it in 3 months at a slightly higher price. I spent much of my time just gathering parts on ebay at the "right price". I'll post a web page about it when I done (this month).

Thumbs up

It cost me about :1400-1600$ give or take

Linear rails with bearings EBAY 250$
FET3 Cruiser package Stepper World 379$
3/8-16 stainless steel lead screw 20$
Dremel 40$
Porter Cable Router EBAY 50$
Compaq Presario with XP on sale 400$
Mach 2 150$
Steel for table and brackets scrap yard 25$
Nuts and bolts 15$

Z-axis was salvaged from the dumster at work
Lead nuts cast and machined from bronze at home
Any other little bits I made myself

The useable work space is 17x28x6

All steel construction very rigid and very heavy
I use it mostly for engraving and foam cutting for LFC

I am happy with it
