| Dear Sir: Assuming the only source of error is the rack, you can get precision rack in 11" lengths from several sources. These can be QUITE accurate (.002 per 11 inches, precision 1; .0006 per 11 inches, precision 3). The accuracy of commercial rack is also quite good. Further, by using a gauge and sections of rack, you can restore the desired accuracy at each junction. We used to do that on long (50') gantry machines. Regards, Jack C. |

| You can do just what I.J. has done with his Z axis retro. He added ball screws and attached it to the quill on the front side.
