How do you know that when you haven't even seen the item he's talking about? Plenty of people have built MDF machines accurate to .001-.002, which is plenty accurate enough to do any wood carving you can think of.
But I will agree with the $600. $1000 - $1500 is more like it.
Also, the Geckos that Dertsap was talking about have been metioned as being ~$30 in large quantities. I'm guessing we're looking at around $35 each for single quantities. You won't need to buy the complete 4 axis package for $300. You'll be able to buy 3 individual drives for around $110.
But even at that price, you need to add another $120 for motors. Add a power supply, a $25 breakout board, wire and assorted little stuff, and you'll still be around $300 or more for electronics. And once you start building the machine, all the little things add up quickly.
Sure, you can start out hoping to spend $600. Just don't be surprised when the total goes over $1000.
