20mm 55" long rails. I'm planning to mount them sideways. Is that okay or should they be mounted with the base flats facing the floor? |

| Those are fully supported rods and should work in any position. The recirculating bearings have a set screw that adjusts out any free play. I have looked at these for possible use on my next cnc machine. I have four 24" x 25mm unsupported rods I bought from a friend and decided to keep them for some other project when I saw the ones you linked to. CarveOne

| George, I used the vxb bearings on this build. I am fairly happy with them. I just used them on the x and y axis. I used v bearings on the z. In hindsight I wish I had used the v bearings everywhere. They are that good and they are way cheaper. I find I do get some vibration off the long x axis due to the serious cantilevered y axis bridge. The bearing cages are not quite as tight as a better grade of linear bearings. They work very well for the y axis though. |

| Thanks for the replies. I feel much better about my plan now. Wish I could show what my plan was in solidworks or something so I could have it critiqued, but by the time I got it into solidworks, I would be done with the machine if I spent the time building. I really enjoyed that vid. |

On the subject at hand, I was considering the VXB rails in my design. The only thing that stopped me was I was using 8020 and none of the sizes had the right mounting hole configuration for the extrusion. Then, I found Ahren's parts and decided to use them instead. For the price you can't beat them. Nate |
