time to resurrect the CNC machine....

The frame will be constructed out of 8020 15 series AL, mostly the 3x3" variety.

Here is one of the mounted 'green' rails from the above picture. Way overkill, but I got an insane deal on the rails. These are the long axis rails for this router, but on a future router (4'x8') these will be the short side.

I opted to 'hard' mount the rails, there is just an ever so slight adjustment available, but most of the adjustment will be built into the gantry.

Why not decrease the angle of the rear support of the gantry in order to increase the length of the work envelope. I doubt you would lose much strength.

Also... what software are you using for your renders?

To tell the truth I haven't really thought of that rear support angle. You're right, it probably could be alot less. Its 45 degrees, maybe 30 or less would do. i guess Ill have to experiment a bit.

I have a 4' linear rail and only a 32" ball screw for that axis, so it may not matter unless I can get a longer screw its may not matter.

I'm using sketchup for the drawings. I had to experiment a bit in order to get the extrusions to look right.
