Power Supply Unit math (wood PSU box?)

Before this site... all I knew of transformers ranged from Optimus Prime to the Decepticons.

I asked some pretty ignorant questions about power supplies and got one of the best replies yet. "Do your research first."

Had I not gotten that... I may have been lying pulse less on the garage floor.

I'm planning to write a guide for power supplies and also planning to make a program (if not program an excel file) for making calculations (now that I understand them) for the DIY power supply.

Yet ... one final ignorant question.

Does anybody think it is dangerous or stupid to make a PSU box out of wood?

One of my goals with my DIY CNC wood router is to make a computer case completely out of wood.

I'm wondering if a toroidal transformer, a full wave bridge rectifier, and electrolytic capacitors are safe resting against a piece of plywood as opposed to aluminum or a project box?

It's plenty safe, provided that the wood isn't treated for outdoor use. Remember, wood is an excellent insulator.

I'll actually be putting my PSU in a wooden box since I'm using an autotransformer and have to ensure the neutral (which is tied to the chassis) doesn't come in contact with the power ground on the driver board (tied to the aluminum heat sink).
