First Router Table Build 4x4

Hi All,

I have made the first jump into building my own CNC router table, see attached photo. Just finished the base this week. I based it in part on Shop Sabre's table and will probably follow the gantry design pretty close too. It will be setting on a large table when finished.

Being real new to the forum and having never attempted a cnc machine build, I am open to any input from others. Feel free to chime in and help steer the design on this project.

I plan on using ballscrews for all axis, I realize there are lower cost alternatives, but am looking for a high quality machine once finished.

NEXT STEP:

I would like to hear opinions on linear guides, rails etc. I have been looking at the supported rails available at vxb.com. A few questions...

Does anyone have experience using these?

Are there better options out there?

Do they work best in a particular orientation (horizontal or vertical mount)

I plan to get the base primed and painted this weekend, and then will start looking to make a decision on guides.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Thanks,

The main sections are 3" 11GA tube and the smaller cross pieces are 2" tube.

I am sometimes guilty of "Battleship Engineering" but I think in the end it willmake for a very rigid base to build upon.

At this point I just have the table base drawn up in Autocad, I am working on the gantry drawings, but will base them on Shop Sabres 4x4 table design. http://www.shopsabre.net/

It seems to be a very rigid design and one that I can build.
