Hi everyone at the forum, I am newbie here I designing an Five Axis Mechmate with 1000mm Z Slide. I am not an engineer and have not build any CNC mechine before. I would properly need a lot of support from all the CNC gurus here. Feel free to comment before I do something crazy. See the link below :- http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/n...=nav_tab_album [/url] Thank You JK Siew |

| I will avoid commenting on the "crazy" part as I have taken on several "interesting" projects over the years. For my own project (still in motion) I found it useful to not focus on what machine I wanted to build, but instead, what I wanted the machine to be able to make. Once I wrote this part down in detail, as well as what tools / machinery I had access to for building it, then the direction and size started to gel. It is not necessary, but a useful idea for such a large system is that the distance between rails should be not much more than 2 - 4 X the distance it is supported. An example would be that if your Z axis is 1 meter long, then the supporting bearing lengths should be not less than 1/4 of that, and ideally 1/2 of that to make it really stiff. Do you have a plan on how to align it / specs for accuracy ? The software (CAM) would seem to me to be the biggest challenge, at least cost wise. Maybe you already have that under control. I assume it is for foam cutting ? |
