Drives

Hi all. I am new here. Just completed me apprectiveship in engineering and currently working on CNC Mills. AS a project at home and for model building purposes i have got plans for a cnc router.

The only real thing i am really not sure about is stepper motors, drives and interefaces. I am looking for either a suggestion of wot i can get which will all work together. I am not to bad with electronics. I am looking no to spend a fortune and i am based in UK.

Looking at ebay but not a hundred percent sure on wot i can get to go together. Will start building once i got the hardware first,

Thanks James

This highly depends on what kind of machine you're building. How big is it and what do you plan on cutting?

it will be one of the small gantry desings, probably mainly cutting wood. i have a full set of plans etc which i beleive says use 260 stepper motors, haven't got them to hand as i am not at home at present, but i am more interested in how the drive for these and interface go together. and where i can get them from without paying through the nose. would rather have a plug and play sorta one, but if i can get one with decent instructions that would be fine.

ok i come across this, wot do people thinkg

well i am thinking of making a overhead gantry design with a 12" x 24" bed.

so what do people think about size of steppers and controllers and interfaces which a resonably priced. thanks james
