How do you read motor specs? Also, how or how do you determine / tell the software where the distance of one revolution. Does that make sense?

So I'm using 1/4" 20 threaded rod. At 1 full 360 revolution, the axis would move a certain distance. How does the software know how far that distance is, so the program corelates with the rod size / thread?

The software will usually have a place where you enter how many steps it takes to move one unit. If you had 200 step / rev steppers, with 1/8 microstepping, and your 1/4-20 rod, you get 20 turns per inch, times 200 steps per rev, times 8 microsteps per step. 8x200x20=32,000 steps per inch.
