I have a poor quality rack on my 10' X axis. Would like to change to a ball screw. Since I can not afford that, i found maybe the next best thing. A friend has a 1.25" dia screw that looks similar to a acme but has a large phenolic nut on it. Has backlash adjustment in the nut. It came off a Thermwood router years ago I guess. Has any one ran across something like this. What kinda accuracy can one expect? How fast can something like that spin over 9' without to much defflection. It even has the bearing blocks for each end.
