Hi I have built CNC router and used Plunge router on Z-axis Router built mostly for cutting RC plane parts but also will be nice cut some PCB etc. Maybe some Light Alu stuff but this on question. But problem is: I need some realy thin Bits like 1mm or les for PCB But plunge router have 8mm collet and unpossible to find realy thin bits with 8mm shank. Is it possible to find some adapter/hub or something to use bits with thinner shank like "Kyocera Tycom" bits. Can anybody point me or give some recommendations Thanks |

I had the same problem. Be warned, I don't think there is a workable inexpensive solution to this issue. I purchased an ER-11 Collet chuck from Enco tools along with an 1/8" and a 1/16" ER-11 collet. I think the collet chuck was about $70.00 or so and the collets are about $40 each. Maybe someone on the list knows of a cheaper supplier but I could not find one. The collet chuck is fairly long so you might want to cut off about an inch. I had a guy at work put it in a lathe and cut an inch off. Otherwise, it sticks out pretty far from the router collet. I did use it at full length and it is quite stiff. Even at full length when combined with my dewalt router it was light years better than the dremel I was using before. Oh, don't bother with some adapters out there that are a shaft with an axial hole and a set screw. Everyone who has tried this says there is too much runout. |
