Ball Screw Question

I was wondering how much accuracy is possible with rolled 5/8" ballscrews? Could they be accurate to .005"?

p.s might think about making your own "preloaded nuts" with two cheaper normal nuts. [/B]
Can you show me how to make the preloaded?

I got my ball scews from http://www.mcmaster.com/ for $1.09 per inch

I used their ball nuts $21.04 each to make a loaded ball nut using Dan's method from Camtronics.

Instead of turning down the ball nuts he added a coupler

Then simply put it on the end of the ball screw

That requires a bit of magic to internally thread those couplers to match the ballscrew, doesn't it?

No Dan said to use set screws

My thought is to use a shear pin.

I am presently seting up a system using the ball screws from Roton. I have received them and they loolk good. The packaging was supurb and the e-mails that I have had with them has given good me a good feeling. they have been very responsive to my questions and the order was made and recieved in good time.
Right now, I am still making pieces parts for the assembly and will probably start on the actual machining of the lead screw next week/

How are you going to drill through the ballscrew?

The shear pin is an oval bar that gets inserted into a milled out section

I was thinking a shear pin across the ballscrew and couldn't imagine how to break the surface to drill the hole!
