That link didn't, though - maybe it's time for a new thread... We've built a 4-axis router (see Deep-Z machine in the DIY forum), and are thinking about adding 2 more, putting pivots on the spindle to give it spin and tilt. It seems like that also would be the best way to turn a 3-axis machine into a 5-axis, by swapping it out for the router mount. I like what Dave Rabinius did; using a couple of surplus rotary tables cobbled together: http://www.rainnea.com/cnc_5axis.htm He's also figured out a way to generate the code that drives it, using a version of Maxscript that's distributed free to gamers, which he calls the CNC Toolkit. There are videos on his site of a 6-axis mill in the process of cutting - it makes me want to do it too... Andrew Werby www.computersculpture.com |

A pair of mating ticks? ![]() I am also interested. I don't yet have a lot of use for one, but I might down the stretch. I have a router, mill, lathe and almost a plasma cutter. It would be difficult to add the extra axes to my router, but not to my mill.

| Im sure many think about it. Probably the main discouragement, atleast for me is programing complexity. Check this homeade 5axis router out if you havent already. http://www.rainnea.com/cnc_5axis.htm |

| I found this whilst hunting about http://www.nmine.com/5axis.htm i have emailed the person as he only mentions a 3 axis controller and fails to mention anything about axis a and c (which i thought was b and c) does one have a three channel and a separate 2 channel or does one hunt for a five channel contoller. |

Programing would seem to be the difficult part. Nothing really ultra hard with the mechanics.
