Hey all I need some advice on which route in taking to to build a router table. I dunno if I should sell the stuff I have or keep and build off of it..I need help !!! My situation is kinda f%^%^ up. A couple years back I bought a Flashcut/Sherline SERVO CNC mill, I was interested in doing small scale work as a hobby . It didn't take long to realized the Sherline mill was way to small for what I intended to do. I sold the mill with intentions of building a larger one using linear rail, ground ball screws and aluminum extrusion, however I never got around to building it. Now, I have ventured into woodworking, I have been considering building a router table and using the things that I kept from the mill, however I am not sure what to do. Here is what I kept from mill. Flashcut and Bobcad software, 401A signal generator, 3 axis drive box, 3-nema 23 151oz motors and limit home switch. (I have a buyer that says they will give me $2k for this stuff, this is about 1/3 of what it paid for it a couple years back. I checked with Flashcut there price is $5760.00) Here's what I looking to build Table 36" X 48" with 8" to 10" in the Z axis it's primary use will be wood working but it must be able to machine aluminum and hold a tolerance of(.001). Speed is a must in wood working!!! Tolerance is must when working with aluminum, Must be a servo driven unit and capable of 200-300 ipm in wood If I sell What I mentioned above!!! This $2K will be used for frame construction and the purchase of drivers, motors, linear bearings, ground ball screws and electrical components ONLY!! I have Aluminum t-slots top, I don't want cost of this considered in the build of the machine I have a Bosch 2 3/4 hp router for cutting head it's to be considered in design build of machine I don't have a problem using steel construction where needed (I have drill press, wire welder, cutoff saw for frame construction) I am open to designs that work regardless of how they looks I have another $2k set a side for Cad/Cam and controller software, so the software is not to be considered in the build of the machine This sounds kinda stupid but what's left of this goes to the wife for "Valentines day" if you know what I mean. Thanks Jeff |

| Sell what you have and look at Joes machines. The Joe 2006 could be done for $2K. There is a new one the 4x4 hybrid and the plans may be out today. Building that would be a little more than $2K, see if one would suit your needs. Software Mach3, VCarvePro, whatever you like to draw in. VCarve has some drawing functions built in and there is lot you can draw in vcarve. |
