After 5 fail attempts i finally got my machine nearly done. I've now got to the electronics. The only thing is i know little about electronics. So i was wondering what the cheapest driver board is, i was considering getting the hobbycnc one, but was wondering if there any cheaper ones as i getting a little short for cash. Any help would be great, the motors i am going to use are the motion control 3Nm so can be wire bi or uni-polar. Thanks David |

| Cheap sometimes comes out very expensive. I have over a grand worth of burned up cheap boards. You get what you pay for. Gecko G293V is indestructible, 3 of them will go for $369 as balanced against $1000 worth of magic smoke. You do the math! |

There are a number of sellers on E-bay selling Allegro 3977 boards for about $35 per motor. The A3977 chip will NOT tolerate shorts across the outputs. Make a mistake - buy a new chip If you run them within specs You will have a good driver for very little money. They are good for 2.5 amp max with 35 volt max on the supply. Most have full, half, quarter and 1/8 steps. If you try to roll your own, the chips and pc board will be about $18 Some have the DB25 connection included. |

| i just did the hobbycnc kit with motors, its an easy build with good directions. you can save a few more bux if you build your own case. The motors are strong,, and it all works with mach3. there are others with this setup so there will be little setup problem. The yahooe group is actve with responce with in minutes. ITs well worth the little price they charge. i wouldnt waste another minute looking for something cheaper.. |

with the exchange rate at about 2usd per squid .. i would say the hobbycnc is the best bet available. comes to 45 odd squids and few shells.......... including p&p p.s. will drive only unipolar motors though... Last edited by EMMKAY; 12-14-2007 at 08:19 AM. Reason: addition |
